Henry Ford: The Rouge and His Village Industries

Wednesday, July 17, 2013 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Novi Public Library: 45255 W. Ten Mile Rd. Novi, MI

Henry Ford developed one of the largest and most complete industrial settings in the world when he implemented the concept of vertical integration at his Rouge factory complex.  In contrast, he would go on to establish a number of small factories in communities around the Rouge. At his Village Industries he experimented with water power and provided employment for the disabled, women, and local farmers, all who manufactured and assembled components for his cars while still being able to live close to the land. The history and development of these two distinct factory concepts will be discussed by automotive historian Steven Stanford. Steven is a member of the MotorCities National Heritage Area, The Henry Ford Heritage Association, and the Society of Automotive Historians. This is a free presentation and is open to the public, please register by calling the library at 248-869-7215 or by checking their website www.novilibrary.org for more information.
